Not only is thrifting a favorable sustainable way to purchase items but it's also a fun interactive activity to do with yourself or others. When thinking of thrifting it may not seem like something you need to follow instructions for, but man do I wish I knew some things sooner than I did.
In this blog post I hope to teach you some tips and tricks I've picked up along the way of my personal thrifting adventures. Follow me along, let's get thrifting!
#1 - Know what you're looking for
In order to find clothing pieces right for you it's important to have an idea of the contents of what they consist of. Thrift stores contain all different kinds of genres and styles; discovering this can help save you lots of time. Click here to read my blog post about a few of my favorites!
Once you find a store it's key to have an idea of the items/styles you're looking for--I have discovered that a great resource to help with this is pinterest. With Pinterest you can create boards filled with pre-organized outfits that spark your eye so when you walk into a store you will know what you are looking for; helping you stay on track. Here's a Pinterest board that I created to help kindle thoughts of inspiration, check it out!
#2 - Try things on
There have been multiple occasions where I would find a clothing item I was certain would be perfect. But once I got home, washed it, and tried it on, it looked just absolutely horrible. Needless to say, trying things on before you purchase it can never hurt. Get a feel for the piece off of the hanger, see if you like how it looks on YOU. It's better to save money on buying items you know you will wear and love rather than having an overconsumption of clothing you will let sit and take up space in your closet forgetting it was ever there.

#3 - Narrow it down
Once you feel fulfilled on the items you found, taking that one last look through is crucial. Looking out for things such as: holes, tears, stains, texture, color and size will help play a huge factor on if you should keep or leave the item. Finding these drawbacks now rather than later saves a great deal of disappointment (and money).
Thinking to yourself “is this something I need and will be able to wear in at least 3 different outfits?” is a personal rule that I try to always follow when in question of making a good purchase. If you can't think of more than one way to wear the item or can’t see yourself wearing it on more than one occasion then you might want to abandon it. The likelihood of you buying it and saying you're just saving it for the “right time” just to forget about it is very high and common.
#4 - Show it off!
Now that you got your clothes, show it off! Let everyone see the great superb items you discovered and how you personalized it. Let your clothes express who you are, be yourself, have fun!
I hope this post helped guide you throughout your thrifting journey leading you to have the best positive outcome. Comment and share below some tips you’ve picked up when thrifting as long as your favorite thrift finds.
